Education

I'm currently a student pursuing my master's in information science at the University of Texas at Austin, where I'm specializing in archives and special collections. I expect to finish my degree in December 2010. More information about my coursework

In 2003 , I completed an M.A. in art history at the University of Missouri - Columbia. My master's thesis in art history is entitled The Cross of Oviedo in Medieval Spanish Art, and it deals with the role of book illustration in the construction of an early national identity in northern Spain. My bachelor's degrees are also from MU and are in art history and Spanish literature.

Experience

I've had the good fortune to work in libraries, museums, and archives since 2002, and my experience has enabled me to see how closely related and interconnected these fields truly are. My responsibilities have ranged from from curatorial work to reference, from to art installation to digitization.

Alexander Architectural Archive, University of Texas at Austin

  • Technician (September-December 2010). As an archival processor and capstone student, I will process an addendum to personal papers dealing with historic preservation, create a digital exhibit, and promote the archives through online social media.

The Dolph Briscoe Center for American History, University of Texas at Austin

  • Research Associate, National Digital Newspaper Program (September 1, 2009 - August 31, 2010). Provided research, reference, and administrative support for the staff and advisory board of an NEH-funded digitization project. Inventoried uncatalogued microfilm negatives, developed and maintained project website, and directed the work of a graduate intern.
  • Digital Projects Assistant (August 25, 2008 - August 31, 2009). Created metadata for digitized images, scanned and created service copies, and developed web pages for a limited-term, grant-funded project.

Texas State Library and Archives Commission

  • Web Editor, Library Development Division (November 15, 2006 – August 22, 2008). Coordinated web editing and publishing activities for a large departmental site, developed databases and web pages, and served as liaison to other departments and groups.

Division of Special Collections, Archives and Rare Books, University of Missouri – Columbia Libraries

  • Print Collections Manager (March 1, 2004 – October 27, 2006). Performed a wide range of duties including public service, bibliographic instruction, curatorial research and exhibitions, and web development.

Museum of Art and Archaeology, University of Missouri – Columbia

  • Graduate Curatorial Assistant, European and American Art (June 2003 - February 2004), and Curatorial Intern/Volunteer (November 2002 - June 2003). Curatorial, installation, public relations, and instructional duties.

Department of Art History and Archaeology, University of Missouri – Columbia

  • Graduate Teaching/Research Assistant (Fall semester 2001; 2002-2003 academic year; fall semester 2003). Taught weekly discussion classes and graded undergraduate papers.

Geological Sciences Library, University of Missouri - Columbia

  • Library Clerk ( January - August 2002). Circulation and stacks maintenance responsibilities.
